Do not state a fixed PIN length or exact button label without seeing it on the live Illinois screen. VINE controls its own registration data. IDOC Victim Services says it does not administer VINE and cannot access the contact information a user supplies to that service.
An alert should be translated before action is taken. A release alert may mean the named source ended custody. A transfer alert means another custodian may now hold the person. An out-to-court event is temporary movement, while an escape or death alert plainly requires different reading. Call the source when the wording conflicts with known facts.
Two Coles County Notification Layers

VINE does not verify a federal BOP or ICE release. Use the BOP Inmate Locator for sentenced federal custody and the ICE Online Detainee Locator for immigration detention. A federal court docket may be needed for a USMS pretrial release. Each system speaks only for its own custody.
Coles County VINELink Limits
Notifications depend on timely source data and accurate enrollment. Feed delays, a changed phone number, blocked email, spelling differences, or an agency record outside the service can affect delivery. Never rely on an alert as the sole source when meeting someone after release or responding to an urgent custody change. Confirm with the jail, IDOC, or other named custodian.
Registries are also not substitutes. Illinois offender registries cover only people who have a legal duty to register.
